This document focuses on how-to swap a DB2 mechanical injection pump in 1994 and later 6.5L vehicles that were originally equipped with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) DS4 injection pump

As of October 2026, Quadstar Tuning is revolutionizing this swap process by re-purposing the original Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to operate as a standalone transmission controller. That means, no more complexity or added cost of having to figure out how to control the Automatic 4L80E transmission

Manual, NV4500, transmission vehicles are simpler to swap but could still benefit for other reasons

Due to various electronic functions on the original vehicles, certain functions were lost when doing a DB2 swap. Including:

• Automatic 4L80E Transmission control

  • The computer would cease to properly control the transmission when the DB2 pump and Drive By Wire electronic thorttle pedal were removed

  • Quadstar's new custom firmware (tuning) removes this limitation and re-purposes the PCM into a TCM

• Turbocharger boost control via vacuum pump and solenoids

  • We can now retain this feature, if desired, when converting to DB2

• Electronic Transfer Case

  • Retain factory electronic transfer case for 4WD

• Glow plug control

  • Since the PCM is still in place, we can still use the factory style glow plug control

Aftermarket transmission controllers and wiring kits are $800+ and aren't necessary when re-purposing what's already there!

• DB2 Injection pump

  • Various power levels available

• DB2 Swap Transmission Tune

  • For 4L80E vehicles 1994 or later model year

    • OBDI or OBDII respectively

  • This will include a TPS adapter cable to connect the DB2 TPS to the existing drive by wire pedal plug on the vehicle

• DB2 Throttle Cable

• DB2 Throttle Position Sensor

• DB2 Injector Line Set

• Hardware kit for TPS and Throttle cable on the DB2 pump

• Intake Gaskets

• Injection Pump Gasket

• Turbomaster Wastegate Controller

  • For stock turbo applications with vacuum pump delete

• DB2 Throttle cable bracket for the injection pump

  • We are planning to make these new but they aren't ready as of the publish date of this article
