Installation Overview

Once you get your new roller rockers opened up

Let's lay them out so we can see where the manufacturer put all the shims

As you can see they put two shims on either side of the captive spacer. You will need to set the roller rockers on your head to verify if (you will most likely) need to move some shims around

Since we need to for this install we will first take the captive spacers out and then use our snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring from one end.

Once the snap ring is off i like to lay all the parts out in the order they come off the shaft.

Having done this a few dozen times I know that for Promaxx heads I need to move these spacers

So below is the correct order of installation of components from left to right please note I didn't take the leftmost snap ring off because there is no need.

Next we will lube the shaft and the inside of all components

Wipe the oil all over for full coverage then we are ready to begin assembly of this shaft we start with a snap ring on the shaft (I never removed it because there is no need) next we add two shims

Then add a roller rocker

A captive spacer with bolt then two more shims

Add another roller rocker

The non captive spacer

another roller rocker

Two more shims

The other captive spacer

The last roller rocker for this shaft

Add the last two shims for this shaft

Lastly the snap ring to complete this shaft

Make sure the snap ring is fully seated in its groove

Last step is to set the shaft on the head and verify that all roller tips line up centered on all valve tips.

Once this has been confirmed build out the other three shafts following all above steps.

Then install a shafts on a head making sure all pushrods are in their cups and torque to the bolts 55lbft.

Rotate the engine one full rotation by hand to verify that you don't have any piston to valve clearance issues.

Now you can install the other three shafts that you already assembled to match the first unit rotating the engine one full rotation in between installing each shaft being installed.

Valve Cover Clearance

Since the HS rockers are larger than factory stamped steel rockers, valve cover clearance can be an issue

You should check the clearance during assembly, before final valve cover sealing

If you have a clearance issue, there are 2 ways to fix it

  1. Use a better, fast drying, silicone and make sure your bead stays thick enough and sets up before tightening so the valve covers don't smash all the way down to the cylinder head flange

  2. Use valve cover gaskets. Coat both sides with Permatex "the right stuff" silicone and install valve covers. Ideally, with our valve cover plate and stud kit.
